Welcome to Cedric Baker Art Studio

CedricBaker's 80's NYC Club Scene

My video here is taken from a portfolio of photographs taken of the people, places, and performers that made up the downtown Art and Club scene that came together during the early 80's with Rap, Graffiti, New Wave, Punk music and the D.J's from uptown who were creating something new that would change the World musically, and the Artist led by Jean Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, Dondi, Fab 5 Freddie, as well as an influx of European artist such as Francisco Clemente, Sandro Chia and Penk,

About Me

As a young Child I was Heavily influenced by my Aunt and Uncle's who were teenage Artist and helped to start my Passion for Creative Expression. As I got older, this love never faded and eventually I went to study art at Sacramento City College, CA.  and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY

My Medium

I use many different mediums, such as oil, acrylics, and pastels. Drawing and Printmaking is a big part of how I tell my story. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style and Medium.

My Inspiration

I'm a student of Art History and after working at the National Gallery in Washington DC, of course the influence of the early Masters of painting have all played a part of how I see, but it's the African American Spiritual experience that influences both my Figurative and Abstract Art Work.
